True blue kind deed

Today I met the best taxi uncle.

He was an elderly man in his late 70s (maybe even early 80s, I presume) donned in a huge thin metal frame spectacles and a green windbreaker. Upon reaching somewhere near my house, I decided that it would be troublesome for him to turn in so I requested for him to alight me along the streets of my house. After paying the fare, he turned and asked:

'Is it safe for you to just walk in?' (It was 5 in the morning)

To which I reply: Yes uncle my block is just beside here -points to my block-

After a few moments of hesitation, he gave me an 'Are you sure? I'm pretty worried face' and said:

'Girl, do you have enough money to spend for yourself?' (he motioned the cash that I paid him. If I said no, he would definitely return the money to me. I suppose he assumed that I don't have enough money to pay the fare if I turned in to my block, hence I asked him to alight me on the street)

Woah. This was my first time hearing an taxi uncle saying that to me. By the look of his face you can see that he was genuinely worried and had no ill intentions.

'Yes of course! Don't worry. Thanks uncle!'

'You sure? And be careful.'

'Okay uncle, you take care! Bye.'

As I alighted and walk towards my block, he carried on staying at the same spot and watch me walk into my block. I turned, smiled and gave a big wave to him. He waved back and drove away.

I am stumped and left wondered, even as I am typing this. I've always assumed that most of the people out there are just concerned about the monetary values of almost everything. Moreover, this is Singapore. Pretty fast-paced and ruthless I'd say. Never thought I would come across a man showing sincere care for a stranger.

Thank you so much uncle, your altruism had left a great impact on me and it certainly made my day/night. You are a bona fide kind-spirited man.
